OFFERED FOR TAKE-OVER

A unique situation has arisen: the partners of one of the world's most famous yacht design agencies, Van de Stadt Design, are looking for successors.

The global trends in the yachting industry in the 20th and early 21st century are firmly connected to the work of Van de Stadt Design. In the 80 years of its existence over 50,000 yachts were built to the company’s designs, often using modern, time saving construction methods.

Among the hundreds of different designs, ranging from 15 ft. to 108 ft., are exclusive yachts, fast and functional yachts for experienced sailors, yachts for charter, but also boats suitable for beginners. Most yachts are in CE category A and are perfect for people who enjoy long ocean voyages and traveling around the world. (View a complete list of all Van de Stadt Designs)

The design philosophy of Van de Stadt Design is to always, in every design, realize the highest possible level of speed, safety, comfort (which includes stable and easily handling) and quality. (More on the Van de Stadt design philosophy)

The existence of Van de Stadt Design begins in 1933, when naval architect E.G. van de Stadt set up his own business in Zaandam.

Innovation on all areas was paramount. In whatever material a yacht is designed, it is always simplicity and solid but lightweight construction that will save time and cost alike and will benefit the speed of the boat. That is why Van de Stadt designs are sold and built worldwide.

In 1951 Van de Stadt started selling plans for DIY construction. This was a big step in making water sports accessible for the general public. It gave thousands of boating enthusiasts the opportunity to realize their dream of owning their own private yacht. (Read more on the history of Van de Stadt Design)

There are eleven editions of the Precision Stock Plans catalog, which have seen thousands of copies distributed across all continents. Most of these designs are available in a digital version.

Over the years Van de Stadt Design has acquired unique, well-documented know-how. As of 1973 each design comes with its own standardized calculations, which are still fully comparable. With this know-how Van de Stadt Design has been able to realize its design philosophy over and over again. Many ‘extensive towing tank tests’ have contributed to this knowledge base.

As most yachts are manufactured in series, there also is a lot of experience in the field of series construction. To name a few yards that have built yachts designed by Van de Stadt:
  • Trintella Shipyard (Netherlands)
  • Winnner Yachts (Netherlands)
  • Jachtwerf Heeg (Netherlands)
  • Dehler Yachtbau (Germany)

  • Comar (Italy)
  • Tyler Boat, Marine Rydgeway (England)
  • Okazaki Boatyard, Chita (Japan)
  • Mander Marine, Chellingworth (Australia)

Most yachts are constructed in modern materials such as GRP, composite, glass- fiber wood core and aluminum, but also in steel, wood, plywood, titanium and even in ferrocement.
